What if cars got commented like football matches do? Perhaps nobody asked this question, but VW of America came up with an answer. With the 2014 FIFA World Cup almost ready to kick off, Volkswagen’s US arm introduces a VW Golf GTI ad that sees renowned Argentinian sports commentator Andres Cantor offering us his take on the hot hatch.
Actually, Andreas doesn’t comment the car itself, but the way in which his son Nicolas is drives while hooning it. Not surprisingly, as soon as Nicolas makes the right move, his father erupts in one of his famous goal exclamations. As you can hear in the adjacent clip, the man can definitely give the GTI’s 210 hp soundtrack a run for its money.

The campaign has a Spanish aroma to it, since Cantor is best known for providing Spanish-language commentary for soccer football matches.

“While the number of passionate soccer fans continues to grow in the United States, Andres Cantor has the unique ability to speak to the soccer diehards and the freshly minted fans in an impactful way that resonates with both audiences,” said Daniel Marrero, President of COD, Volkswagen’s Hispanic advertising agency of record.

This, of course, is part of VW’s efforts to introduce the Golf 7, along with the GTI version, on the US market and we’ll remind you that the vehicle recently passed the IIHS crash tests with flying colors.
