Earlier this morning, we heard reports that SEAT had leased out an entire hall at the 2015 Barcelona Motor Show and was packing it with cars. The same reports said the purpose of this was to show one last facelift for the Ibiza before the next-gen model arrives. They were wrong!
This teaser photo from Seatpassion forum shows they are in fact going to unveil the all-new Ibiza tomorrow morning. It's likely to be the biggest launch of the Spanish brand since the MQB-based Leon came out about two years ago.
Just like the Skoda Fabia and Polo Facelift, the Ibiza isn't going to use the MQB platform. Instead, the old architecture will be adopted, made lighter and stronger.
We expect the Ibiza to grow in length and width, maybe even adopt a 5-door-only body style, since the SC is a slow seller. While the MQB platform itself won't be used, some of its major technological features will. For example, the latest infotainment systems with mirroring will make phone pairing easy.
As for the engines, expect to see a lot of 3-cylinder units. The old 1.2 HTP units will be replaced by a 1-liter, while a turbo version of that will be used on hypermiling models. The diesel range will be made up of 1.4 TDI units with three outputs: 75, 90 and 105 HP.
A new Ibiza Cupra model is likely to debut within a year or so. It will borrow a 1.8-liter turbo engine from the Leon and boost its way to 100 km/h in about 6.7 seconds using 192 HP. That's all speculation though, which will come to an end tomorrow morning as the new Spanish pocket car is revealed, so stay tuned.
