Peugeot 6008 7-Seat Crossover Confirmed for 2016

The Peugeot brand was hurt badly by the economic downturn in Europe, announcing declining sales since 2008. But with the help of well designed and engineered cars like the 208 and 308, they have recovered well and even hired a few people over the past months. But their lineup is still cluttered, especially the X008 range, where MPVs and SUVs cross paths and cause a total corporate mess.

With the success of the 2008 crossover, Peugeot has leaned customers want space, not offroading prowess. And they're going to get more of that with the 6008, a 7-seater built with the latest technology that's likely to replace the 5008.

An official press statement from the syndicate of CFDT, governing PSA's La Janais factory in Rennes, says clearly that a model called the P87 will be made there starting in 2016. No prototypes have yet been spotted, but French magazine Largus states it has learned P87 is the internal codename for the 6008.

The crossover will be designed after the SXC concept car and may be underpinned by the EMP2 platform. This has already been used to make the large C4 Grand Picasso, but never a car with all-wheel drive.

La Janais is a factory that has long had an unclear future, currently making the slow-selling Citroen C5 and Peugeot 508. Since it targets a growing market, this crossover may secure jobs. But the 6008 will also be made in China, which is rapidly overtaking France as PSA's market of interest.

Local production of this large crossover is scheduled to take place in 2017 and a petrol plug-in hybrid drivetrain is reportedly being developed for them, scheduled to debut in 2019.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
