At times I believe that high-speed cameras, or at least plain high-definition ones should be installed around every corner of any MotoGP track which sees action… even during the testing sessions. And that is because of one of the photos the current leader of the 2014 championship, Marc Marquez recently posted on his Facebook page.
After the Czech GP in Brno, the teams stayed for one more day at the circuit for the official test scheduled for Monday. After having finished outside the podium for the first time in his MotoGP career, Marquez was eager to show the world that he is still the leader, even in the testing sessions. He had both the 2015 RC213V prototype at his disposal and the current machine, and took riding very seriously, managing to break the existing lap record set by Cal Crutchlow in 2013 and his own Saturday pole.
Still, the young Spaniard was unbelievably close to a serious low-side crash in Turn 10, when the front wheel flipped completely, as you can see in the attached photos. With the front losing control and grip, and the rear wheel being on the edge as well, Marquez actually rode his Honda leaning onto his right shoulder and arm.
Instinct, fear, luck, blazing-fast reactions, he managed to pinch the throttle just enough to help the bike lift and regain full traction. His on-board sensors are said to have recorded a 68-degree leaning angle which is of course, completely insane.
This looks more like a ”video or it didn’t happen”, but with such exposure, nobody is that foolish to try and “rig” things up this way.
A last minute update in MotoGP reveals that Drive M7 Aspar will not be using Nicky Hayden in the next round, the British GP at the Silverstone circuit. The Nicky “Kentucky Kid” Hayden says that he doesn’t want to rush the recovery after his wrist surgery, and take unnecessary risks in an early presence on the grid, thinking about a return at Misano.
Leon Camier will be the 5th Brit on the grid at Silverstone, alongside Cal Crutchlow, Bradley Smith, Scott Redding and Michael Laverty.
