The first BMW M5 in the company's history was the E28 model. Sure, before it came the M535i but that wasn't a proper M car but rather some sort of M Performance model that opened the road to ultra high-performance sedans.
The E28 was a beautiful and powerful model. It had a 3.5-liter 6-cylinder inline S38 engine that made 256 HP in the US and 286 HP in Europe and South Africa (and it was dubbed M88/3). That was plenty in the late 80s, especially since the car had a great rear differential and 5-speed transmission.

One of the guys who really liked this model seems to have been the founder of Gerber Foods, Mr. Daniel Frank Gerber, as he bought one such car back in 1988. Over the years, his M5 was mostly stationary inside his garage and today, nearly 25 years later, has just 6,655 miles (10,650 km) on the odometer.

Furthermore, the car is up for sale on eBay for the price of... wait for it... USD158,800. That's right folks, prices for old, hand made M vehicles have skyrocketed lately.

Even so, we think that's just too much, no matter who owned it and how well it was maintained. However, if you're in the San Diego area, you still have 9 days to check it out and raise the money for it, if you're interested.
