One of the newest projects on Kickstarter is the AirDog, an auto-follow drone that was designed by Helico Aerospace Industries especially for all those who are passionate about action sports. It’a small and agile foldable quadcopter made for video shooting action sports with a GoPro camera. It flies at up to 40 mph and could change the world of aerial filming.

After beeing used only for military purposes for years, it seems the drones have become average video shooting devices that more and more people around the planet are using on a daily basis. However, the AirDog is about to change that bringing an entirely new concept to the market: auto-follow.

This drone works by itself and needs nobody to control it, which leaves you all free to take your slides and jumps and tricks while it makes the perfect captures. You don’t need to confine yourself to stationary video or ground-level perspective, because it was designed to work by itself.

The kit comes with a airleash which the customer puts on his wrist or helmet and that’s it. All one has to do is pre-set the necessary altitude adjustments, the distance and angle, and they’re good to go. Considering we live in the world of smartphones, of course it comes with an app. For advanced features like track or lap recording or specific flight modes it can be configured right on your phone.

In other words, it’s like you’d get your personal flying cameraman and you don’t even need to give him directions. As to the images it captures, let us say they look pretty amazing. According to AirDog’s designers, you don’t have to worry about framing the shots or getting the right angle, because the drone has a gyro-stabilized gimbal.

Even though its battery last for only 10 to 15 minutes, this baby is operable in winds up to 23 knots and it was designed to resist in extreme conditions. It comes with foldable props, collapsible body, it is splash-proof and comes with a water proof remote.

As to the price, the pledge the team is asking for starts with $1,195 (EUR 882), while the estimated retail price is $1,495 (EUR 1104).
