When it comes to racing pedigree, the Chevrolet Corvette has it in spades. One of the most revered examples of the Vette’s illustrious racing career is the baby at hand - the Corvette L88 RED/NART bruiser. Despite its old age, this all-American V8 bruiser is driven by 560 horsepower and it’s loud. Really loud.
The 427 cubic inch L88 big-block isn’t the only loud element. Other than the 7-liter berserker under the pumped-up hood, check out that styling and all of those stickers. It’s extremely hard to come by a modern racecar as tastefully decorated as this bad boy, especially one wearing the period NART livery.

Hand-built by Toye English’s Race Engineering Development, the 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L88 RED/NART took 1st in class and 3rd overall at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1973, which is no small task even by today’s standards in endurance racing. It also competed at Le Mans in 1972. To be offered at auction by RM Sotheby’s on August 13th, we believe that the winning bid will be a number with at six zeros. It's that valuable of a racing machine and piece of Corvette history.

Curiously enough, the RED/NART received its widebody kit a year after that class win at Daytona. After being campaigned at IMSA events, the Vette was sold to an upstate NY racer who purchased this old-school monster's predecessor - the Rebel. From there, not many people know what happened to it until it was rediscovered by vintage racing fanatic Jack Boxstrom.

After an careful and costly restoration, the 1968 Corvette L88 RED/NART was showcased at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance and it received its certification from the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association. From Daytona winner to almost scrapyard material, the story and racing success of this old-timer is impressive, the reason why it’ll fetch a nice sum by the time the auctioneer’s gavel strikes "Sold!"
