Out of all the 90s cars that have kept their own on the racing scene over the years, the Supra must have a truly special place. The latest example comes from the 2015 edition of the TX2K event that recently took place in Texas and saw a Supra taking down not one, but two 1,800 hp Lamborghinis.
The clip below shows us the 2ZJ-hearted machine racing a Lamborghini Gallardo that’s gone down the twin-turbo route, with the Supra having already devoured a similar Raging Bull. As opposed to the Gallardos, the Toyota packs a single turbine.
Now, is we are to believe the power ratings claimed by the owners, the Supra delivers 1,400 hp to the wheels while the Lamborghinis pack 1,800 AWHP each. This all goes to show that, in such a world, one doesn’t trust numbers.
In case you’re wondering how the Supra coped with the all-wheel drive of the Gallardos, you should know these were rolling start races. Even so, a false start from one of the Lamborghinis’ side managed to change the outcome of one of the runs - the Supra never managed to catch up after the Gallardo rushed to mash the throttle.
However, as we said, the Supra managed to impress TX2K public by beating the Lamborghinis. Unfortunately, the Toyota didn’t win its class, but the victories only determined Geo, the owner, to put even more work into his car in the future.
After the series of arrests that took place while TX2K cars were caught street racing, it’s refreshing to see the vehicles battling it out on the strip.
